Chinsan Biking Trail

Are you an early bird? If the answer is yes, then you must ride with me on the Chinsan trail (Approximately 8km round trip) and Chuying trail (Approximately 6km). Arthur promises you the refreshing air will awake you from deep within.

Riding on the professional bicycle prepared for you by Arthur, through the beautiful sceneries of Hualien, you shall hear the birds singing on the branches, smell the fragrant aroma of the blossoming flowers, and witness the green rice paddies and imposing mountain ranges.

I’ve taken Richard, a high school classmate of mine who has 2 Master degrees abroad, on these trails. This experience made him felt as if he was at New Zealand, lacking only cattle and sheep. Richard visited with his whole family for two nights, and he claimed that, perhaps is because that he loved biking, the dusk he rode with me is the most unforgettable experience of all.

Zuo Chang Trail

Zuo Chang Trail is a gradual and relaxing walk. It has a total length of 3.95 km, about 8 km roundtrip, which takes approximately 3 hours. Zuo Chang Trail is accessible to casual strollers, with well-established facilities such as viewing platforms, bathrooms, and pavilions.

The trail is gentle and comfortably wide with trees on the sides; great scenic views allow visitors to browse the entire Hualien City from afar. To the north one can see Chihsin Lake and Hualien Airport, and to the south is Hualien-Taitung Rift Valley, hence the pavilion located at the mountain peak is an excellent observation site to understand Hualien’s respective geological locations.

Zhuilu Hiking Trail

Zhuilu Hiking Trail is very narrow and especially precipitous during cliff regions, a scenic trail that is challenging to its hikers, definitely not suitable for all. Hikers must assess their own physical conditions before applying.

Arthur and Theresa departed from Cihmu Bridge at 9:30 am, and by the time we returned to swallow grotto, it was 4:30 pm already. On top of that, the mountain region does not have any water supply, during summer time under the scorching sun, 2400 cc water is definitely not enough. We were half way to dehydration by the time we completed the entire trail, therefore interested hikers must take caution.

Baiyang Trail

This trail is an open hiking trail. The road condition is good with gentle inclinations. The facilities are well-established, abundant with scenic information along the path. It is suitable for the general public, young and old.

The trail can be completed within half a day, equipped with light gear. The total length is 2,100 meters. From the starting point to the entrance of Shuilian Cave(Waterfall Cave) requires approximately an hour, and 2 to 3 hours roundtrip. The pace can be freely adjusted according to personal conditions.

Mt. Lintien (Lintienshan)

To conserve the history of Mt. Lintien forestry center, Hualien County Cultural Affairs Bureau requested Jen-chung Cheng to compile a book “An Introduction to the Forest Native Place Lintienshan”, accurately recording the old photos and the narration of the elders. Also, Cultural Affairs Bureau counseled Mt. Lintien Humanities Studio.

Visitors must take notice, Friendship Hall and Fire Safety Museum storing old photos and documents are not open to the public, if any tourist groups want to have a deeper understanding of Mt. Lintien’s cultural artifacts, please phone Mt. Lintien Humanities Studio prior to the arrival.

Stones with Dreams, Await Flight (By Jih-sung Yeh)

Please restore to me my boundless tenderness, allow my feather light dream, carry a jar of yearning and fly away home Please restore to me my ruggedness and freedom, with the melody I shall take flight, in search of the sun, the moon, and the stars Return to nature, listen to the love songs of mountains and seas, and comfort the hunger of the wild
